Show Rules:

Michigan Poultry
Fanciers (MPF) is a member of the APA & ABA. Our poultry show is sanctioned
by these organizations. Birds will be judged by their Standards and the show will
be governed by the Official APA & ABA Poultry Show Rules.
·
Health
requirements are regulated by the State. Exhibitors, of all poultry except
waterfowl, must provide a parent flock NPIP certification number, VS9-2, VS9-3,
or MDA state pullorum test certificate before cooping-in birds for the show,
sale area, auction or Showmanship.
·
All APA classes
of poultry will be accepted: Large Fowl Chickens, Bantam Chickens, Ducks,
Geese,
·
Entry Fee: $3.00
per bird. Double coops are an extra $3 each.
·
Entries must be
postmarked by Monday, September 29th, 2008. Make checks payable to: Michigan
Poultry Fanciers and mail, along with your Entry Form, to the Show
Superintendent: John W. Blehm, 4599 Lange Rd., Birch Run, MI 48415-8137.

The show will be
held in the Harvey Kern Pavilion, In Heritage Park,
·
All birds must
remain on exhibit, in their assigned coops until the show concludes on Sunday
at 11am. Junior exhibitors (18 and under
only) must check (“X”) the box on the Entry Form if they want to
coop-out early on Saturday at 6pm.

Exhibitors are
responsible for feeding & watering their own birds. MPF will provide feed
& water.
·
Judges shall not
be interrupted while judging. Please give them plenty of room to do their jobs.
·
As per APA rules
anyone 18 and under may exhibit as a Junior exhibitor. To be eligible for
Junior awards, available only to Junior exhibitors, they must check
(“X”) the box on the Entry Form indicating they will be 18 or
under, on the show dates.
·
MPF will not be
responsible for any losses, accidents or damages. Your participation
constitutes your agreement to our rules and to hold harmless Michigan Poultry
Fanciers and the City of
·
Any case or
condition not provided for in these rules will be referred to the MPF Board of
Directors for a decision. Any protest must be presented to the Show
Superintendent in writing as soon as possible, before awards are handed out,
and accompanied by a deposit as per APA & ABA rules. If the protest is
denied the protest fee shall be retained by Michigan Poultry Fanciers.

Health Requirements

You are
encouraged to have your birds tested before the show, but testers will
be available to test birds at the show during coop-in times only. A $1 per bird donation to the club is
suggested for this service.
·
Exhibitors at
poultry shows, in
·
Required health
certificates (described below) must be examined and approved by the Show
Superintendent before displaying, exhibiting, or cooping-in poultry in the exhibition
area or before commingling with other poultry.
·
Poultry
vaccinated against Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) with a vaccine that
“Does not spread bird-to-bird” are allowed in the show. Poultry vaccinated with more virulent ILT vaccines are
allowed provided the vaccine hasn’t been administered within the six week
period prior to the show dates.
·
Poultry that
have known exposure to, or that show clinical signs of, infectious, contagious,
or toxicological disease shall not be exhibited and removed from the premises.
·
A bird shall not
be handled except by the exhibitor, show superintendent, or judge after the
bird is placed in an exhibition coop.
·
Feed and water
containers provided for exhibition coops shall be new or properly cleaned.
·
A feed or water container
from which a bird has eaten or drunk shall be refilled to prevent contamination
of the common supply of feed and water. A feed or water container may not be
removed from an exhibition coop except for the purpose of cleaning.
·
Bedding shall be
clean and shall be replaced daily, or as often as needed.
·
A shipping crate
used in the shipment of birds by common carrier may not be used as an
exhibition coop. Shipping crates shall
be cleaned and disinfected on the day of arrival after the birds have been removed
for exhibition and before being used again. Unless otherwise necessary,
shipping crates shall not be stored in the exhibition area.
·
It is the
responsibility of the exhibitor to ensure that all requirements for testing,
identification, and official interstate health certificate or official
interstate certificate of veterinary inspection are fulfilled prior to
importation and that proof of fulfilling these requirements is provided to the
show superintendent upon request.
·
Upon request, an
exhibitor shall present for inspection all appropriate health certificates
required to accompany the poultry.
·
Out-of-state
poultry for exhibition shall meet the requirements prescribed for importation
and shall be accompanied by a copy of an official interstate health certificate
or an official interstate certificate of veterinary inspection issued by an
accredited veterinarian from the state of origin.
·
Birds shall not
be diverted to a premises other than the destination site named on the official
interstate health certificate.
POULTRY –
from
(Chickens, guinea
fowl, turkeys, waterfowl, pigeons, doves, peafowl, and game birds)
1. All poultry except
waterfowl, pigeons, and doves shown at public exhibition in this state shall
meet one or more of the following requirements:
a. Originate directly
from a U.S. pullorum-typhoid clean flock as defined in Title 9 of the Code of
Federal Regulations, and all amendments to that publication thereafter adopted
pursuant to rules that the director may promulgate, OR
b. Have a negative
official test for salmonella pullorum-typhoid within 90 days before the fair,
exhibition, exposition, or show facility and remain segregated from all poultry
of unknown or positive salmonella pullorum-typhoid test status.
2. Individual birds
originating from non-National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) qualified flocks
may be tested at the show or exhibition prior to being caged and housed with
other poultry and if negative, be allowed to participate in the show or
exhibition.
3. Documentation of
birds originating from a certified NPIP flock must be presented at the show or
exhibition (parent flock NPIP certification number, VS9-2, VS9-3, or Michigan
Department of Agriculture state pullorum test certificate).
POULTRY –
Imported
(Chickens, guinea fowl,
turkeys, waterfowl, pigeons, doves, peafowl, and game birds)
1. All poultry and
other birds for exhibition imported into this state require an official
interstate health certificate or certificate of veterinary inspection issued by
an accredited veterinarian from the state of origin.
2. Poultry vaccinated
for Infectious Laryngotracheitis (ILT) shall not be imported into this state
unless permission from the director is granted. All restrictions placed by the
director on the import of the poultry shall be followed.
3. All poultry
imported into this state for exhibition shall meet one or both of the following
requirements:
a. Originate directly
from a

official test for salmonella pullorum-typhoid within 90 days before importation
and remain segregated from all poultry of unknown or positive salmonella
pullorum-typhoid test state.
4. Documentation of
birds originating from a certified NPIP flock must be presented at the show or
